On 7 October 2023, the Palestinian group stormed across the border into Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking more than 250 people hostage. This led to Israel fighting back, and the conflict is still ongoing.

Other countries have since got involved, and missiles have been fired at Israel from Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen and Iran. Israel has also struck back at Yemen and Lebanon with airstrikes, as well as carrying out a small ground assault on southern Lebanon. Israeli leaders are said to be still considering how to respond to the 200 missiles that Iran launched at it last week.

Israel marked one year of fighting with tributes and protests calling for the release of hostages. More than 100 have been freed, while dozens have been killed and nearly 100 are still being held in Gaza.

Demonstrations calling for peace are still being held all around the world.
